US 101 Hillside Repairs Begin At Lake Crescent In Washington

Expect single-lane closure through end of February

PORT ANGELES –Travelers who use US 101 west of Port Angeles should plan ahead for highway repairs. As soon as Wednesday, Feb. 3, contractor crews will begin efforts to stabilize the hillside adjacent to US 101 near Lake Crescent. The repairs are required after heavy rains triggered erosion below the highway.

Through an emergency contract, Interwest Construction Inc. crews, working for the Washington State Department of Transportation, will clear debris, replace a damaged culvert, and stabilize the hillside. Travelers will see daytime construction for the next four weeks or until the work is complete. US 101 near Fisher Cove Road has been reduced to a single, alternating lane of travel since Monday, Jan. 25.

Work on this vital transportation link between Port Angeles and Forks takes added importance due to the month-long closure of State Route 112, resulting from multiple slides. WSDOT engineers are finalizing designs that are unique to each slide area and plan to reopen SR 112 as soon as possible.
