WA Measles Outbreak Leads To State Of Emergency
Gov. Jay Inslee on Friday issued a State of Emergency proclamation in response the ongoing measles outbreak in Clark and King counties.

OLYMPIA, WA - Gov. Jay Inslee on Friday issued a State of Emergency proclamation for the entire state due to the ongoing and worsening public health crisis in Southwest Washington's Clark County, where public health officials have now confirmed 30 cases of measles and are still investigating nine suspected cases.
Earlier this week King County health officials confirmed a man in his 50s who'd recently traveled to Clark County was hospitalized in Covington but has since recovered. Only one Clark County case required hospitalization as well.
Clark County declared a public health emergency Jan. 18, when there were just 19 confirmed cases. Eleven more cases were confirmed over the following seven days.

Of the 31 currently confirmed cases across the state, 21 involve kids between 1 and 10 years old, eight involve teens 11 to 18, and two involves adults — one between 19 and 29 years old, the other in his 50s. Only four cases in Clark County still have unverified immunization records. The remaining 26 are confirmed to have occurred in non-immunized individuals.
The immunization status of the King County man was not specified.

In his proclamation Friday, Inslee cites only 25 cases confirmed by the Washington State Department of Health; his proclamation apparently came before Clark County added another five cases in its Jan. 25 measles investigation update.
"The Washington State Department of Health has instituted an infectious disease Incident Management Structure to manage the public health aspects of the incident," Inslee wrote. "The Washington State Military Department, State Emergency Operations Center, is coordinating resources to support the Department of Health and local officials in alleviating the impacts to people, property and infrastructure and is assessing the magnitude and long-term effects of the incident with the Department of Health."
By issuing a State of Emergency, Inslee has officially implemented the state's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and reportedly made available state resources to assist local agencies and departments respond to and recover from the outbreak.
