Bellevue Approves $1.6M For Housing Domestic Violence Survivors

BELLEVUE, WA — The Bellevue City Council this week unanimously approved funding to help LifeWire complete a new supportive housing project to provide stable homes for victims of domestic violence.

LifeWire's Hope Starts Here program is scheduled to complete a 25-unit project later this year, prioritizing housing for survivors earning 30 percent or less of the median income. The housing project will also feature supportive services on site.

In a news release, the city said sales tax revenue helped provide additional funding for the project, along with other improvements to behavioral health and housing services. The city expects the taxes, provided by legislation that took effect last year, is projected to provide up to $9 million for Bellevue annually.

A recent survey helped Bellevue identify some of the community's top priorities for human services, with nearly three-quarters of those surveyed identifying affordable housing as their number one issue.
