Bellevue's Downtown Park Gets New Public Artwork
Artists will be hard at work for several weeks assembling a large piece in Bellevue's Downtown Park.

BELLEVUE, WA — Bellevue neighbors who frequent Downtown Park over the next few weeks will notice a lot of activity as artists and fabricators begin installing a new piece of permanent artwork for the city to enjoy.
According to the city, the sculpture was designed by the Brooklyn-based "THEVERYMANY" studio, which incorporated elements of architecture into its work. Installing the new work downtown will require 6 to 8 weeks, as builders assemble thousands of parts.

"Fluted columns will rise to form a perforated canopy with light filtering through," the city said Tuesday. "Made up of over 6,600 unique panels with over 60,000 handmade folds and fastened with over 180,000 rivets, the artwork will reflect Bellevue's innovative technology sector, love of natural forms and robust creative community of thinkers and makers."

The new piece is the last part of the "Northeast Gateway" project, which saw a new plaza and water feature completed in 2021. The Bellevue Arts Commission selected the work, which was paid for by the city to grow its public art collection.
