BELLEVUE, WA — The new Main Street bridge is set to partially reopen to traffic in downtown Bellevue this weekend, five months after crews demolished the old overpass. The Washington State Department of Transportation will open one lane of traffic in each direction on Sunday.

The new and improved roadway is scheduled to fully reopen in January, complete with a new 12.5-foot-wide multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists.

The old bridge was demolished in June as part of the Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project, which will complete a dual express lane system between State Route 167 in Renton and Northeast 6th Street in Bellevue. The project required a new overpass to allow space for the new lanes, and construction was completed right on time.

"After last winter's concrete strike and a wet spring earlier this year, we are excited to be moving forward with this significant multimodal improvement as part of the Renton to Bellevue project," said Lisa Hodgson, the program's administrator. "Thanks to recent dry weather, our project team's hard work, and strong communication and partnership with the city of Bellevue, we are able to reopen the bridge on schedule and ahead of anticipated traffic increases during the holidays."
