Ducklings Crossing Freeway Halt Traffic On I-405
A family of ducklings brought the northbound lanes to a halt Monday morning in Newcastle.

BELLEVUE, WA — A family of ducklings safely made it across Interstate 405 Monday morning, bringing traffic to a standstill as humans helped shepherd them to the shoulder. The Washington State Department of Transportation shared footage from nearby traffic cameras just south of 112th Avenue Southeast in Newcastle, showing the close-knit siblings scrambling across three lanes of traffic just before 9:30 a.m.
WSDOT said state troopers were in route to assist and asked drivers to use caution in the area while the game of "duck duck goose" continued. The show was over within 10 minutes, with northbound traffic flowing as the ducklings made their way down the shoulder of the freeway.
"Please remember that wildlife can appear on any of our roadways, and time time of the day and year," WSDOT wrote on Twitter. "If you spot an animal creating a hazard, slow down and call 911.
