Emergency I-405 Repairs Begin Thursday In Bellevue

A failed culvert under mainline Interstate 405 will lead to lane reductions and a full closure this week. Here's what to know.

BELLEVUE, WA — More traffic disruptions are coming to the Eastside this week as the Washington State Department of Transportation completes emergency repairs around Interstate 405 over four full days.

WSDOT said it identified a failed culvert under mainline I-405 in the spring, near the Newport Hills Park and Ride, which caused a large sinkhole in the parking lot. The repairs scheduled this week aim to prevent similar sinkholes from developing under the freeway.

The first phase of the project begins late Thursday, closing two southbound lanes of the freeway between Coal Creek Parkway and Exit 9, along with the exit's off-ramp, until 5 p.m. Friday. The second phase will require the freeway to close in both directions at Exit 9 for nearly 24 hours, which is scheduled to begin late Friday. During the full closure, flaggers will direct drivers onto a city street, then back onto the freeway.
