Flooding Closes Several Bellevue Roads Friday
A driver who attempted to clear standing water on Southeast 7th Place had to swim to safety after getting stuck Friday morning.

BELLEVUE, WA — Record rainfall in Western Washington led to urban flooding and standing water on Puget Sound streets Friday morning. In Bellevue, flooding prompted the closure of Eastgate Elementary School and led to a scary situation on Southeast 7th Place.

Bellevue Police and Bellevue Transportation posted photos on social media showing a car stuck in the middle of Southeast 7th Place, near the Lake Hills Connector. According to police, the vehicle's driver swam to safety. County officials said drivers should never attempt to drive through standing water, as just one foot of rushing water is enough to carry away most cars.

Friday afternoon, crews also closed a section of West Lake Sammamish Parkway to stabilize a failing culvert.
