Meydenbauer Bay Park Beach Closure Extended Due To Bacteria
The park's swimming area has been shuttered since June 23 after tests found high levels of bacteria in the water.
BELLEVUE, WA — Bellevue officials recommend swimmers continue avoiding the Meydenbauer Bay Park beach after a new round of tests determined bacteria concentrations in the water were still too high to be safe.
The beach area has been closed since June 23, and recent tests by Public Health - Seattle & King County found bacteria readings were still too high.
"The closure comes at the direction of Public Health – Seattle & King County, which routinely tests water quality at freshwater swimming beaches throughout the area," the city said in a news release Friday. "The swimming area will be reopened when testing indicates that bacteria levels are low-risk."

While the closure remains in place, the rest of the park is open and visitors will see signage cautioning against swimming in the water. Several other beaches in the city remain open and staffed with lifeguards seven days a week, including Chism, Clyde and Newcastle.
