New $2M Clyde Hill Home Burns Down Overnight

The sprinklers system of a newly built Clyde Hill home that burned down overnight Tuesday was not available to fight the fire because it had not passed its final inspection, according to the Bellevue Fire Department.

Investigators say the fire was caused by a mechanical or electrical problem and destroyed the $2 million, 5,800-square-foot Clyde Hill home, which was just a month from completion, according to the Bellevue Fire Department.

Firefighters from Bellevue and Kirkland arrived to battle the blaze, which was reported by a neighbor around midnight. The home was in the 9000 block of Northeast 28th Street, contrary to earlier reports.

A partial collapse of the second floor made it difficult to fight the blaze inside the house and it took firefighters one and a half hours to control the fire, according to the Bellevue Fire Department.

Bellevue fire investigators believe the cause of the fire to be either electrical or mechanical, originating in the floor-ceiling assembly between the home’s first and second floors, according to the Bellevue Fire Department. The owner’s insurance company may determine a more specific cause.

Bellevue and Kirkland firefighters battled a Clyde Hill fire that totally destroyed a newly built home, according to Kirkland fire and news reports.

According to KIRO-TV, neighbors reported the flames at the home in the 8800 block of N.E. 28th Street of Clyde Hill around midnight. Crews had a difficult time finding the home, according to the TV station.

The first floor of the home was completely engulfed when firefighters arrived, and the second floor eventually collapsed, the Bellevue Fire Department told the TV station. No one was injured.

The Kirkland Firefighters union Facebook page featured a video posted to YouTube reportedly of the Clyde Hill blaze.
