Rent Grew More In Cities Outside Seattle Last Month: Report

Rent is expensive in Seattle. But now it's getting more expensive to rent in cities outside Seattle.

BELLEVUE, WA - Average monthly rent on an apartment in Renton costs about $1,500, according to the real estate website RentCafe. That's about $500 less than in Bellevue or Seattle. But the days of cities like Renton being a cheaper alternative to bigger Puget Sound cities might be numbered.

According to RentCafe's monthly assessment of rents across the U.S., Kent, Bellevue, and Renton saw the fastest rent growth in March. Rent was up by nearly 1 percent month-to-month in those three cities.

Meanwhile in Tacoma, year-over-year rent has grown 8.3 percent, which is among the top 10 of all cities in the U.S. Rent in Tacoma is still relatively cheap at about $1,200 per month, however.
