Sammamish Teacher Gets Special Shout-Out: Meet Liz Yanev!

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

Liz brings a fair and honest approach connecting modern teaching practices with timeless traditions. She builds up a community of solid individual citizens in every group she represents but always shares her own spotlight with her peers. She is a shining example of poise, humble grace, work ethic and hopeful humanity. She has left pony hoof shaped impressions on her tiny rider students she coaches after long days at school at the neighborhood farm. She works longer hours than anyone I know to support her daughters working student positions and passing the knowledge to next generations in a daily basis. Her work with kids trickles back up to their parents in magically transformative ways and every parent sings her praises of family bond, genuine friendship and mutual trust.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

She will credit her team to any individual award, and while her teammates absolutely deserve recognition individually, she is has poured so many layers of the communal glue that makes the foundation of their team work so well, that it’s her long haul effort of consistency, repetition and reliability we owe our thanks. She is setting high examples for adult behavior in a nonjudgmental, shame free setting, and creates a sense of belonging and trust. Liz has excellent human skills.
