Wakeboarder Dies In Lake Washington Boat Crash
First responders on both sides of Lake Washington rushed to the scene Tuesday after a boat struck a wakeboarder.
BELLEVUE, WA — A man died in a wakeboarding crash Tuesday after he was struck by the ski boat that was towing him, according to police. First responders from Bellevue, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Medina and Seattle rushed to the scene near Yarrow Point just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on reports of a person injured in the water, nearly 100 yards from shore.
In a news release, the Mercer Island Police Department said investigators determined a 42-year-old Seattle man was wakeboarding off a 22-foot vessel operated by a 24-year-old Seattle man when the crash occurred, causing fatal injuries.
Police said a preliminary investigation found no signs of impairment, but detectives will continue to work with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death.
