West Lake Sammamish Parkway Project Will Mean Delays for Motorists Through October

A project that will add a trail along the west side of West Lake Sammamish Parkway, among other improvements, means there will be road detours on southbound West Lake Sammamish Parkway at Southeast 34th Street through October.

One mile of southbound West Lake Sammamish will be closed, and motorists will be routed on a 4-mile detour that includes Interstate 90.

Residents, students and people who need to go to the their homes, businesses, the French Immersion School of Washington or the Vasa Park Resort and Ballroom must access these places by heading north on West Lake Sammamish. 

Construction on the project started in January and will continue through October 2013, according to a city newsletter.

The southbound closure starts March 19, according to the city. While the northbound lane will remain open, significant delays are still likely.  All businesses will remain open during construction.

Motorists should find alternate routes (pdf) to traveling on West Lake Sammamish Parkway between Interstate 90 and Southeast 34th Street, the city said. Delays of 15 minutes or more are possible through the construction zone, according to the city.

The West Lake Sammamish Parkway Project will add a multi-use trail along the west side of the arterial, and it will restore the existing pavement. The proposed construction plan breaks the roadway into five approximately mile-long segments, according to the city.

The project includes the construction of a 10-foot wide multi-use path on the west side of the street, a four-foot shoulder on the east side, and one general-purpose travel lanes in each direction, according to the city.
