Where To Cool Off In Bellevue During The Heat Wave

With an excessive heat warning lasting into the weekend, city officials have shared a few ways to cool off in Bellevue.

BELLEVUE, WA — Temperatures are poised to soar into the mid-90s on Thursday and Friday in Bellevue, and neighbors have a few options to help beat the heat. Cooling centers will operate on the two hottest days of the heat wave, welcoming residents to enjoy air conditioning as afternoon highs peak. Seattle Humane will also operate an emergency cooling shelter for pets on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday & Friday

  • Bellevue Community Center
    • Thursday: 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
    • Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Friday only

  • Crossroads Community Center
    • Friday: 4:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

City officials recommend visitors wear their masks inside both cooling centers to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Beyond the two cooling centers, residents can also check out Chism Beach, Enatai Beach, Meydenbauer Bay and Newcastle Beach parks, where lifeguards will be on duty from noon to 7 p.m. The Crossroads water spray playground and Downtown Park's Inspiration Playground will operate from 10 a.m - 8 p.m., giving families another fun option to cool off.

Despite the soaring temperatures, residents should also remember that area lakes and rivers remain very cold, and swimming in unguarded areas can pose significant risks. Brush up on water safety reminders and the best practices for navigating hot weather on the King County website.
