After Morning Wet Road Crashes, Drivers Urged To Slow Down

Firefighters say slippery roads Friday morning had their crews called to several dangerous crashes. Now, they're urging caution.

One of the biggest crashes Friday morning was this rollover in Tacoma, which put one person in the hospital and left six other people and a dog with minor injuries.

TACOMA, WA β€” Puget Sound has gone nearly two full months without rain, but as it returned Friday morning some drivers found it hard to adjust to the slippery wet roadways.

First responders in the South Sound say they've been called to a number of crashes, which they blame on the slick roads and the overnight rain. To avoid future problems, they're asking commuters to remember to take it easy, and slow down if the road appears slick β€” or else risk catastrophe.

Another reason to slow down and stay alert while driving after rain: the water can saturate hills and cause landslides. There's no danger of serious slides at the moment β€” there simply hasn't been enough rain for the hills to be fully soaked β€” but the rain did help trigger a small slide near Hoquiam overnight Thursday.

All of this to say: chill out, stay alert, and know that it's better to be slightly delayed than stuck in a ditch.
