After Morning Wet Road Crashes, Drivers Urged To Slow Down
Firefighters say slippery roads Friday morning had their crews called to several dangerous crashes. Now, they're urging caution.

TACOMA, WA β Puget Sound has gone nearly two full months without rain, but as it returned Friday morning some drivers found it hard to adjust to the slippery wet roadways.
First responders in the South Sound say they've been called to a number of crashes, which they blame on the slick roads and the overnight rain. To avoid future problems, they're asking commuters to remember to take it easy, and slow down if the road appears slick β or else risk catastrophe.
Crews responded to multiple collisions this morning because it rained overnight. The roads are slick! The power poles are hard when you hit them! Those ditches are muddy when you land in them & the front end of another vehicle is unforgiving when you hit it! #SlowDown pic.twitter.com/8HxMZF9e06

Another reason to slow down and stay alert while driving after rain: the water can saturate hills and cause landslides. There's no danger of serious slides at the moment β there simply hasn't been enough rain for the hills to be fully soaked β but the rain did help trigger a small slide near Hoquiam overnight Thursday.
A slide occurred in the early morning hours along SR 109 north of @CityofHoquiam. The roadway is fully blocked. A detour is in place while crews investigate the extent of the slide and recommend next steps. Real-time travel alerts: https://t.co/Fa7agebTx4 pic.twitter.com/JthfdQMsOM

All of this to say: chill out, stay alert, and know that it's better to be slightly delayed than stuck in a ditch.
