Bonney Lake Albertsons to Close at End of Year

The Minnesota-based Supervalu Inc. said today it plans to close 60 underperforming stores nationwide, including the Bonney Lake Albertsons location.

News broke today that several grocery stores will shut down in the South Sound, including the Bonney Lake Albertsons. The Minnesota-based chain Supervalu Inc. announced they will close 60 underperforming stores nationwide.

Sources close to Patch say the local location will close in December of this year and will cost the city about $32,000 in sales tax revenue, not including the impact on local jobs.

The struggling business reported low first-quarter profits, according to stock numbers. In June, Supervalu Inc. stock had fallen by half. The company had also replaced it's CEO this year.

According to The Tacoma News Tribune, workers in closing stores are mostly covered by union contracts and will receive severance benefits will move to another store, as specified in their individual contracts.
