Bonney Lake Hallmark to Shutter After 22 Years

Morford's Hallmark in Bonney Lake is shutting down in February, after over two decades in the community.

If you walk into Morford's Hallmark today, you’d see lots of empty walls and signs advertising discounted holiday merchandise.

Any other January, most Hallmark visitors wouldn’t give the deeply discounted decorations and cards a second thought—it usually signifies the end of a busy holiday season, making room for Valentine’s Day pinks and reds.

But in Bonney Lake, it’s a sign of things to come. The Hallmark store is shutting down permanently after 22 years in the community and will vacate the building, near Safeway, by February.

Teresa Bidewell, a Bonney Lake resident and Hallmark employee for 6 years, confirmed the sad news of the store closure to Patch. She said it’s a casualty of the slow economy, although the store did have a successful holiday season.

“The owner is just beside himself about it,” Bidewell said.

Going-out-of-business sales are likely to begin next week and then it’s time to job hunt, Bidewell said. She has not received word from Hallmark that any other jobs within that company are available.
