Dine and Dash

Police were dispatched to the New Peking for a report of dine and dash. The manager told police a subject drank over $100 worth of alcohol at the bar a month ago and left without paying. He gave one of the bartenders a Visa money debit card for his tab. He didn’t return to pay his bill so the bartender charged the card.

A month later, the manager received a letter from the Wal-Mart debit card bank, stating the card was unauthorized. The manager couldn’t confirm who served the individual and would not be able to identify him.

Police were familiar with the name on the card and knew he had been contacted several times by Bonney Lake and Puyallup PD. Police attempted to locate him at his usual places but were unable to track him down or obtain a phone number.

Possession of Stolen Vehicle

An officer was driving westbound on SR 410 when he noticed a 1994 Honda Accord with expired tabs. The vehicle belonged to a Tacoma woman and did not have current registration documented. Police pulled the car over on 97th St. E. and the vehicle stopped in a driveway. A female passenger jumped out of the car and quickly walked up to the door and then toward the back of the house.

The homeowner saw police pull up and had no idea who the woman was. She asked her what she was doing on her property. The suspect told her she was in the neighborhood helping her cousin, who was bleeding. The homeowner confronted her about lying and the woman fled.

The male driver was still in the driveway with his dog when questioned by police, who noticed he had several jailhouse gang tattoos. He denied knowing the girl’s last name but when pressured he admitted it.

Dispatch confirmed that the car had been stolen and police found another Washington State license plate in the backseat, belonging to a Ford Explorer out of Graham. That vehicle was also confirmed stolen.

The man told police he had no idea the car was stolen and had just returned from Florida and had been hanging out with the woman. She asked him to drive her around that day because she didn’t have a good license. He said he’d never seen the car before and thought it was hers, since she had keys to it.

Police caught the woman running through surrounding backyards and found out she had a warrant from Tacoma. She told police she had been smoking meth the day before with her male companion in Prairie Ridge. She said they had just woken up and drove into town to get breakfast and visit the man’s grandmother. She said she bought the vehicle from an unknown guy for $500 and had it for about a month.

Animal Control arrived to take the dog. Police found a meth pipe and unidentifiable pill in the woman’s jacket. She also had numerous unopened toiletries from Rite Aid and a CO2 gun in her purse.  Police were able to determine the two had stolen the items from Rite Aid after watching surveillance tapes from the store.

Police determined the man had no idea the vehicle was stolen and he was released. The woman finally admitted she had stolen the vehicle, in addition to many others. She was arrested for taking a motor vehicle without permission, first degree.
