The next day, the boy and his father went to the police station and said that they watched the surveillance video and recognized the bike thief as a fellow student at Mountain View Middle School. The officer viewed the tape and saw two men wearing hooded sweatshirts walk into the store and leave with the bike. The policeman brought the tape to the campus safety officer at Mountain View – that officer didn’t think that the boy’s father had identified the right person. The policeman then showed the tape to the campus officer at Bonney Lake High – that officer identified one of the men as a recent BLHS graduate who had recently been involved with a bike theft incident in Sumner. Police tried to contact the man at his residence, but he wasn’t home.
Police contacted the second suspect at Mountain View Middle, who told police he didn’t go to school the next day because his classmate’s father had contacted him and threatened him regarding the stolen bike. The BLHS grad happened to be the boy’s cousin, who he admitted to being with at the time of the incident.

After some questioning, the boy admitted that his cousin stole the bike and road it out of the store. Police tried numerous times to call and contact the man, but with no luck. The bike was never recovered but theft charges were placed against the man.

Malicious Mischief
10:30am: A woman came to the Bonney Lake Police Station to report that an unknown suspect super-glued her dead bolt and door handle at her home on Mountain View Drive. She said she had returned home from an overnight visit with a friend and could not get into her apartment because the door was super-glued shut.
She suspected her ex-boyfriend of damaging her door – they had previously shared the apartment. They both got restraining orders against each other but the man still lived in the complex with his mother.
Officers went to the residence and found the door glued shut. They tried to contact the man at the nearby residence and noticed a tent on the south side of the apartment that someone appeared to be living in. There was no one home or in the tent.
Domestic Violence
10:30pm: A woman at a residence on the 17000 block of 77th St. E. called police crying, then the phone disconnected. While en route, dispatch advised that the phone was disconnected by a male at the residence who was intoxicated and known to carry handguns. Officers met the woman and her 4-year-old at the front door – she told police the man was in the backyard.
The man was located and he did not have any weapons on him. He told police that the two adults had been in an argument over the boy’s father – a judge had earlier ordered visitation rights to the man and he didn’t think it was a good idea because the father was a “meth head.” He told the woman that her ex was not welcome and she had to move out. He said he was in the hot tub at the time of the confrontation and got out to grab his cell phone, when he realized the woman had it. He went upstairs, confronted her and got his cell phone back, which is when she called police and the phone disconnected.
The woman told police she had gone upstairs to put her son to bed when the man came in demanding his cell phone. He grabbed her wrist and police observed she did have some scratches and swelling.
The man was arrested for domestic violence and issued a no-contact order. Police also requested that his firearms be removed from the house while he was in jail.

Stolen Fanny Pack, Weapon
5pm: A man reported that sometime in the last three weeks, a black nylon fanny pack had been stolen from his car, which was parked in his driveway. In the fanny pack was an automatic pistol with two magazines, in a leather holster. The fanny pack also had 40 silver quarters in it.
Police gave the man a case number and asked him to follow up with them for more information.

DUI
9:50pm: Bonney Lake Police were dispatched to the Jack in the Box regarding a suspected intoxicated driver, currently in the drive-thru. The manager told police he had slurred speech and that the restaurant refused to serve him. He had left his vehicle parked in the drive-thru and was making contact with other drivers waiting in line. He drove off but soon returned and drove his vehicle into the drive-thru lane, blocked it and refused to leave.
Police found the man and his car and asked him why he was parked in the drive-thru. The man slurred his words, had bloodshot eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol.
The man was arrested for DUI and blew a .211 BAC at the station.

Robbery
10:49pm: Officers were dispatched to a robbery that had just occurred at the Bonney Lake Library. The 20 year-old caller said he was sitting on a bench in front of the library playing a game on his laptop computer when unknown man, approximately 20 years old, approached him and started hitting him with a police-style baton and split the skin on top of his head. He asked the man what he wanted, and the suspect said he just wanted him to leave. The man then stole his laptop computer, power chord and extension chord.
When asked why he was playing on his laptop outside the library so late, the man replied that he is currently homeless and had been spending some nights on that bench.
East Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to his injuries and he was transported to a local hospital, and later dropped off at his father’s house. K-9 units and BLPD searched the area for the suspect but he was not found.
