BONNEY LAKE, WA β€” You may notice something a little different if you spot a Bonney Lake Police Department officer this month. That's because the department is participating in the Real Men Wear Pink breast cancer awareness campaign, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

As part of the campaign, officers will be decked out in pink badges and breast cancer ribbons all month. They'll also be collecting funds for the American Cancer Society, to help out in the fight against breast cancer.

The police department says breast cancer is a problem that affects everyone, but it's an issue that hits close to home: one retired department member and another active member are both survivors, and there are two department spouses currently battling breast cancer.

"BLPD stands behind our courageous ladies and all of the courageous ladies who have fought, or are currently fighting, breast cancer," the department said. "You won’t fight alone!"

Anyone interested in helping the department's fundraising efforts can donate online. The department has set a goal of raising $2,500 by the end of the month, but they're already well on their way: as of Tuesday, they've garnered more than $1,100 through more than a dozen donations.
