Bonney Lake's Old Sumner-Buckley Highway Renamed Veterans Memorial Drive

Just before Memorial Day weekend kicked off, Bonney Lake made a significant city change to honor local veterans.

City officials, residents and veterans were on hand to mark the official change from Old Sumner-Buckley Highway East to Veterans Memorial Drive East in a on Friday, May 25.

The council officially voted to change the sign last year. . Many residents believed the name of one of the oldest passageways through the Plateau should remain the same. Business owners complained of the cost to change their signage, but . After some debate, the city council passed an ordinance in November to officially change the sign for good.

On May 22, residents began seeing the new signs on along the roadways. Bonney Lake public works installed the signs in city limits; WSDOT took care of the ones on SR 410.
