Event organizers anticipated 400 participants and rented the Middle School commons room to accommodate it. When over 1,000 people showed up, overflow precincts spilled into the gymnasium. The event started almost 40 minutes late, as volunteers were overwhelmed with the amount of people waiting outside to come in and register.

“It’s overwhelming but exciting,” said Colleen Wise, event organizer and vice president of the Republican Party of Pierce County.

Pierce County councilman Dan Roach and mayors Neil Johnson and Dave Enslow came to show their personal support for the Republican party with the hope that a new president could cut government spending and spur local job creation.

“I’m just here being part of the process, it’s kind of fun to come in and help get people elected," said Roach. “There’s a lot of excitement here… it’ll be interesting to see what happens and who gets the momentum going.”
