Daffodil Festival Seeking Tacoma-Area Chaperones for Royal Court

Being a princess in Pierce County is hard work – and none of it could happen without a core group of behind-the-scenes volunteers.

To get to and from special appearances, photo shoots and interviews, the Daffodil Princesses need safe transportation. Beyond that, they will sometimes need a moral boost, a shoulder to cry on, someone to offer them advice on poise and leadership, communication and college.

If making a difference in the lives of local young women and working behind-the-scenes of a 79 year-old festival sounds fun to you, consider becoming a Royalty Chaperone. It’s a mentorship role that includes transporting girls to and from events and could include some life-coaching. Past princesses have kept in touch with their chaperones years after participating in the festival. 

Daffodil Festival communications manager Steve James told Patch that there are plenty of chaperone volunteers for the Puyallup-Sumner area, but they are in dire need of Tacoma locals who can help out the princesses from Lakewood, University Place and the greater Tacoma area.

Qualifications include a heart to serve, time during the day, a vehicle large enough to fit three princesses with dresses, a clean driving record and valid automobile insurance. Chaperones get reimbursed for their mileage.
