Daffodil Valley, Liberty Ridge Recognized by State as Reward Schools

As a part of Washington’s Elementary and Secondary Act waiver granted by the Department of Education, State Superintendent Randy Dorn has designated 58 top-performing and most improving Title I schools as Reward Schools, including Daffodil Valley and Liberty Ridge, both in the Sumner School District. 

“Schools identified as Reward Schools have been doing the work that it takes to make a difference for students. School staff, students, parents and communities should be proud to join this distinguished group,” said Dorn.

Daffodil Valley and Liberty Ridge Elementary Schools are named as Reward Schools, recognizing high-progress.  

“This designation reflects the hard work teachers and staff are doing at these schools, and the hard work continues at schools throughout the district. Our teachers are working together in professional learning communities with a focus on increasing student achievement, and our students’ test scores reflect their collaborative efforts,” said Superintendent Craig Spencer. “Principal Marcie Belfield, Daffodil Valley, and Principal Laurie Dent, Liberty Ridge, are education leaders who are making a difference for students every day.”

A high-progress Reward School is a Title I school that scored in the top 10 percent of Title I schools in Reading and Math (combined) on state assessments for its “all students” group. This designation acknowledges a school’s performance and improvement in Reading and Math during a three-year period (2008/09 - 2010/11).  Schools designated as Reward Schools cannot have significant achievement/opportunity gaps among subgroups.
