It's a rare wonder, watching a home burn to the ground in a safely contained situation, and it happened today in Sumner. 

practice-torched a home on Valley Ave. E. today that was owned by the city and will one day be an extension of the . A small crowd of friends and onlookers watched from 7 a.m. to well after 5 p.m. as East Pierce practiced burn drills in different parts of the house, eventually torching the whole thing to the ground.
