More than 20 firefighters worked Thursday morning to contain a fire burning in the woods near Safeway and Fred Meyer.

BONNEY LAKE, WA β A brush fire burning in a wooded area near State Route 410 drew a large response Thursday morning as crews rushed to contain the flames. East Pierce Fire and the state Department of Natural Resources deployed to Bonney Lake, targeting flames in the woods behind Safeway and Fred Meyer.
More than 20 firefighters were at the scene by 10:30 a.m. working through tall timber and bushes to set up containment lines, fire officials said. While working to extinguish the new flames, East Pierce Fire said crews had to contend with an earlier brush fire that rekindled about 200 yards south.
Officials said firefighters were able to contain the blaze a few minutes before 11:30 a.m.
