Good Samaritan Finds Ring in Loyalty Park

Someone found a woman's wedding ring in Loyalty Park. Little did they know, the ring with a specialized inscription was worth over $35,000.

Carmen Palmer from the city of Sumner shared this story with Patch, it's really sweet!

On Sunday, May 26th, a Pierce County resident was in Sumner at Loyalty Park and found a lady’s wedding ring with the inscription “you forever Mattie 4-23-94.” The ring was obviously very expensive and was turned over to the Sumner Police Department as found property.  With little to go on, there was not much for police to do but hope someone stopped by to claim the ring. A report was written and the case filed.

On Tuesday, one of our police records clerks was walking around town during her lunch hour when she noticed a sign posted near the park asking about a lost wedding ring and offering a reward. Remembering the report that had come across her desk to be filed, she took down the number and called. Turned out the person who answered the phone could describe the ring to a T, including the inscription.

The next day he arrived at the police station to pick up his wife’s ring, valued at over $35,000. Last we heard, he was trying to track down the honest citizen who had found the ring and turned it in to police. Sumner PD is just happy the ring was able to be returned to its rightful owner.
