SHS Girls Swim Takes Second Place at District Championship Meet

Sumner varsity girls secured second place in Saturday's 2A District Championship meet at Hazen High School in Renton, while setting three district meet records.

The Spartans celebrated many first place finishes, broke their own best time records and some swimmers will go to state on allocation.

"What more could a coach ask for?" asked head coach Dana Powers. "We have State left, and a lot more incredible swims to come. You haven't seen nothing yet!"

200 Medley Relay: 2nd: 1:57.36, close race with Interlake winning the event in a 1.57.25. Ditty, Alicia, Huynh, Ashley, Munger, Madison, Hendricks, Sami.

200 Free: Both swimmers going to State on allocation: 5th Huynh, Ashley 10 SUM 2:10.99; 7th Gustafson, Kallan 10 SUM 2:10.26.

200 IM: 1st: Munger, Madison 9 SUM 2:15.89, will go to State; 7th: Ditty, Alicia 9 SUM 2:31.93  Allocation for State.

50 Free: 1st: Hendricks, Sami 11 SUM 25.24 State Qualifier, Meet record: (prelims time 24.97); 6th Martin, Elizabeth 10 SUM 27.50, Allocation for State.

100 Fly: 1st Munger, Madison 9 SUM 1:01.93, set State meet record; 6th Thompson, Emma 12 SUM 1:04.99  State Qualifier; 15th Kressler, Lizzie 1:13.27.

100 Free: 1st Hendricks, Sami 11 SUM 55.42 (prelim time 54.68), State Qualifier.

500 Free: 7th Gustafson, Kallan 10 SUM 5:54.57 (8th place was a 5.54.82) Great race where Kallan prevailed at the end with the best finish all season; 15th Kressler, Lizzie 6:19.62.

200 Free Relay: 1st 1:45.25 State Qualifier and meet record, Madison Munger, Ashley Huynh, Emma Thompson, Sami Hendricks.

100 Back: 2nd Thompson, Emma 12 SUM 1:05.63. Another close race that came down to the wire where Interlake's Maddie Hagen (1:05.46) just out touched Thompson; 5th: Ditty, Alicia 9 SUM 1:08.37, State Allocation.

100 Breast: 2nd Huynh, Ashley 10 SUM 1:13.08 State Qualifier. Again, another great race with Interlakes CC Hagen (1.12.58) out touching Huynh at the finish; 9th Ekse, Katie 12 SUM 1:20.80 (prelim time was a 1.19.66, 3 second drop from her best time); 11th Martin, Elizabeth 10 SUM 1:22.64.

400 Free Relay: 3rd: SUM 4:01.38 Elizabeth Martin, Kallan Gustafson, Alicia Ditty, Emma Thompson. A great finish by Thompson bettering her 100 free leg by over 4 seconds.
