Stokesbary Re-Elected As Republican House Floor Leader

Rep. Drew Stokesbary (R-Auburn) was re-elected as the floor leader for Washington State House Republicans during a meeting Monday.

SUMNER, WA β€” Rep. Drew Stokesbary (R-Auburn) was re-elected as the floor leader for Washington State House Republicans during the group's reorganizational meeting this past Monday. Stokesbary, who represents Washington's 31st Legislative District, has been in office since 2014 and was first elected as floor leader in March 2018.

The 31st Legislative District includes Sumner, Bonney Lake, and Enumclaw on the west and a huge portion of rural King County on the east. As floor leader, Stokesbary "is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for debate and legislation on the House floor, as well as creating plans to move legislative policies forward supported by the caucus," House Republican officials said in a statement.

"I am honored by the support and trust of my colleagues. I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance goals that benefit all Washingtonians, such as good schools, safe communities, and a strong economy," Stokesbary said. "I will also work to oppose ideas promoted by the majority party that would harm Washingtonians, such as an unnecessary income tax or a costly, new tax on energy."

Stokesbary's election and re-election was the result of former House Leader Rep. Dan Kristiansen's decision to step down.

Between 2010 and 2018, Kristiansen was the subject of considerable controversy involving campaign finance donations and fabricated justifications for opposing specific laws in Washington, most recently the state's new gun regulations.
