Sumner and Bonney Lake Get Ready to Face Off in Rivalry Softball Game
To raise awareness for Relay for Life, Bonney Lake and Sumner will challenge each other in a rivalry softball game on Saturday.

Last year, Bonney Lake administrative specialist Debbie McDonald challenged Sumner’s associate city engineer Ted Hill to a softball game, pitting city against city.
“It took all my craft skills to make that trophy which is proudly displayed at the Sumner City Hall,” said McDonald in an email to Patch. “Last year they won and we want our trophy back!”
The softball game is to raise awareness for July’s event and will kick off this Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Daffodil ball fields. Bonney Lake mayor and fast pitch coach Neil Johnson, who is battling leukemia, will not play this year but hopes to attend.

“[Bonney Lake’s] team is much better prepared this year to take on Sumner,” said Denney Bryan, Bonney Lake’s code enforcement officer and captain of Team Bonney Lake.
Hill is confident that Sumner will keep the title.
"All I have to say is, look at last year's score."
