Sumner High Kicks Off 'Food Bowl' Donation Drive
Every year, Sumner High School's four grades compete to see who can gather the most food for local food banks. Here's how you can help out.
SUMNER, WA β It's that time of the year again: time for Sumner High School's annual Food Bowl donation drive competition.
Every year, the four classes of Sumner High compete to see which grade can gather the most donated food for local food banks. Last year, the food bowl drive gathered more than 11,000 pounds of food for the Sumner Community Food Bank β and organizers are hopeful they can see a similarly strong turnout this year.
The drive lasts through Tues. Nov. 23, but has already started off strong.

Community members are invited to take part, and there are several donation spots throughout Sumner, including at Gordon Family YMCA and the Sumner Library. Food and money can also be donated at Sumner High itself between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Every bit of food will help: according to non-profit Feeding America, some 42 million Americans will experience food insecurity this year. In Pierce County, more than one in ten residents experienced food insecurity in 2019, a number that has likely only grown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
