Animal Control
4pm: Officers contacted an animal control officer in the 600 block of Elizabeth St. to assist with an animal cruelty warrant at a residence. Upon arrival, the officer found a dog tangled in a tie. The dog, a female Chihuahua, was in the small back yard with a German shepherd. Both dogs were tied up. The leash on the Chihuahua was tied tightly around the left rear leg and there was no room for the dog to untangle itself. The leg appeared swollen. The animal control officer requested police backup and checked the dog’s records – ‘Miley’ was properly licensed. Both dogs were friendly but officers noticed that the German shepherd, Zuce, was extremely thin. There was no food or water available any where in the yard. The officer took Miley to the east Main Animal Hospital, where the doctor confirmed she was extremely thin and flea bitten. The animal was placed in a shelter and given food, water and bedding.

DUI
An officer was driving westbound in the 900 block of Main St. when he observed tail lights from a dark vehicle, about 40 feet down the railroad tracks on Main St. He heard the tires spinning and knew it was stuck. The officer approached the vehicle and found the male driver on his cell phone, sitting n the drivers seat with the vehicle running and still attempting to drive away. The officer saw his rear tires were buried up to the body of the vehicle with no hope of freeing it.
The officer observed the man had watery eyes and could fairly smell intoxicants. The man admitted to having ‘a few beers’ and said he was trying to ‘go north to Stanwood.’ He was slurring his words and unsteady on his feet. The officer asked the man if he would submit a breathalyzer and the man said, ‘I would rather not,’ but he did submit to voluntary sobriety tests, which he failed.
The officer arrested him for DUI and called a tow to have his vehicle impounded. He said he was drinking at the Silo Tavern and blew a .184 and .185 BAC at the station.

Robbery
1am: Officers were dispatched to a robbery that occurred 45 minutes prior to the call. Dispatch advised that two males had a knife and stole a woman’s wallet and fled the scene in a Chrysler 300 with 24-inch rims.
Police contacted the woman in the Day and Night Grocery parking lot, and she told police she had driven to ampm to get some cigarettes around 12:30 a.m., parked her vehicle and entered the store. She forgot her ID in the vehicle and went back to get her wallet, when she was approached by two males. The first suspect was a dark-skinned black male, about 6 foot with a goatee, black shirt and black baseball hat on. He also had a slight southern drawl. He demanded her purse three different times, but each time she told him no. She said the second suspect, a light-skinned black male, about 5’10 with a blue sweatshirt, demanded the wallet and pulled up his shirt, exposing the handle of a knife that was sticking out of his right front pants pocket.
She handed over her wallet and they both ran off eastbound on Main Street. She did not see the suspect get into the vehicle or outside of it. She said she had $350 in rent money and her US bank credit card in the wallet. When questioned by police, she said she thought she was set up, because she had just been paid yesterday from work. The police reminded her that she told them the trip was an impromptu stop from her home to get cigarettes. Police asked why it took her so long to call police and she said that she was freaked out, so she called her friends first.
Officers spoke with the clerk at ampm, who said it was moderately busy and he didn’t notice the robbery or suspects. The police followed the woman home, gave her a case number and cleared the scene.
