Enumclaw is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Enumclaw has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Did you know that Enumclaw was originally called Stevensonville, named after the town's first postmaster, Frank Stevenson? The town was later renamed Enumclaw, which means "thundering noise."
- The city is home to the oldest fair in the state, the Enumclaw Expo Center, which has been running since 1863. The annual Enumclaw Pro Rodeo, held every July, is the largest rodeo in the Pacific Northwest.
- Enumclaw is known for its spectacular Mount Rainier views. You can catch breathtaking views of the mountain from several locations in the city, including the historic downtown area.
- The city is home to the famous Chalet Theatre, which was built in 1938 and is one of the oldest continuously operated movie theaters in the state. The theater has been renovated to include modern amenities but still maintains its classic charm.
- Enumclaw is also a popular destination for winter sports, with several ski resorts located just a short drive from the city. Crystal Mountain Resort is a local favorite and offers skiing, snowboarding and other winter activities.
