ENUMCLAW, WA — More than half of the abandoned horses rescued from an Enumclaw property this month will be available for adoption starting Sunday, Dec. 22. According to the King County Sheriff's Office, 18 of the 25 horses will be released to SAFE Equine Horse Rescue, while seven others still require additional care.

The animals were rescued from a property outside Enumclaw on Dec. 7 after several neighbors reported the horses were not being fed and had been left outside in the cold. Some of the horses were infected with parasites and struggled to walk when they were found.

The horses' owner, 61-year-old Sharon Hunter, is the suspect in another animal cruelty case in Snohomish County. A judge there has ordered her not to possess any horses. An investigation into the Enumclaw case is still ongoing.

SAFE is looking for homes for the horses in advance of their release by investigators. The organization said applicants will need to be capable of handling wild horses, who often act unpredictably. Qualified people are encouraged to send applications via the organization's website.
