A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Jini Dellaccio Documentary

On Monday, June 4, director Karen Whitehead will be giving visitors a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of her documentary, “Her Aim is True.”

The film takes a look back at Dellaccio’s archive; more than 50 years of photographs. It also features commentary on her career by distinguished rock photographers, as well as musicians from then and now. It follows Dellaccio’s photo shoot with Neil Young in his backyard, and live performance shots of bands such as The Who, The Rolling Stones and Mitch Ryder.

“With her Hasselblad camera in hand, Jini changed the formula, and brought a new sensibility to rock band photo shoots while barely any other woman photographers had professional careers, let alone ones in rock ‘n’ roll,” stated director Karen Whitehead in her director’s statement. “The film is meticulously crafted around a series of encounters that explore Jini’s unique relationship with the bands and the strong connection between their role as innovators in music and Jini’s own independent spirit.”

Karen Whitehead is an independent filmmaker originally from London, UK. She is directing and producing this documentary with the Seattle-based production team headed by Gabe Kean from the award winning design studio, Belle and Wissell. The team is fortunate to have the award-winning filmmaker John Jeffcoat as director of photography on this project.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS:

PRODUCER/DIRECTOR: KAREN WHITEHEAD is an independent filmmaker originally from London, UK. Karen is an accomplished journalist, a former BBC producer and director of current affairs programs as well as creator of documentary style videos for non-profits. She has produced a film on the history of the Berlin Wall for the Newseum, currently on exhibit in Washington DC. She is also a recipient of a CINE Golden Eagle Award for directing a short film, “Woodlawn Redux” (2008).

CINEMATOGRAPHER: JOHN JEFFCOAT is an award winning filmmaker who has worked as a writer, director, producer, cinematographer, and editor since 1994. His first feature film, “Outsourced” won numerous awards and is now an NBC comedy series, exec produced by him. Other projects include the feature-length “Bingo! The Documentary” and the Emmy nominated “Partners in MS”. He is the DP on the MTV rock band series “$5 Cover” and when he is not pointing the camera at Jini, he is working on another rock music documentary “Big In Japan.”

ART DIRECTION: GABE KEAN has been designing and leading teams to create innovative media projects including film/video content for clients like The Harley-Davidson Museum, Experience Music Project, and The Smithsonian Institution. Awards for his design studio, Belle & Wissell, include recognition from Communication Arts, The One Show, and Museums and the Web. Recent exhibit production includes the story behind Nirvana for EMP in Seattle.
