Parents, Are Your Kids Eating Enough Veggies?

First Lady Michelle Obama said about one in three kids in the country become overweight or obese due to lack of exercise and healthy diet.

First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" on Tuesday to promote the release of her new book, American Grown: The story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America. (The book even has its own Facebook page.)

The “Let’s Move” campaign, launched by FLOTUS, promotes healthy living and diet to fight the current epidemic of childhood obesity in the U.S.

According to health.gov, the recommended daily servings of veggies for kids are about 3 to 5.

However, with busy daily schedules and easy access to fast food today, about one in three kids in the country become overweight or obese, Obama said.

To help spread the awareness, the White House has a garden where local kids help plant the vegetables. Once the crops are harvested, the kids even get to enjoy a “Vegetable Feast” (which by the way does not include a “cheese faucet”). Here in Gig Harbor, a is available at the .

Obama said the garden is a great way to change eating habits for children.

“If kids are involved in the growth process of food, and they get a better understanding of where their food comes from…they're more likely to be excited about it," she said.
