Cougar Sighting Near 38th Avenue NW in Gig Harbor

UPDATE: According to a Gig Harbor Patch reader, the cougar was spotted on Thursday, Feb. 23, off 38th Avenue NW in the Hidden Glen Housing area.

The said it received a report of a cougar sighting in the Quail Run neighborhood near 38th Avenue NW in Gig Harbor on Monday, Feb. 27. 

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife spokesperson Craig Bartlett confirmed to Patch that the department received a call regarding a cougar sighting a couple of nights ago.

"We sent several officers out to check it out and found no signs of a cougar at the time. We'll be aware of that area, and if people call in and report another one, we'll try to get out there," he said.

"We are taking necessary precautions at and such as increased awareness of supervisory staff during recess and lunch breaks and avoiding fields, playgrounds and parking lots that border wooded areas," the district wrote on its website.
