Service/Good Intent/False: 17

On Aug. 19, an infant was locked in a running vehicle by the automatic locking system when his mother went around to get him. She called a locksmith, but because he wouldn’t be able to respond for 20 minutes, she called 911. The child was in direct sunlight and the vehicle’s AC was turned off. Firefighters were able to unlock the door, and the child was uninjured.

On Aug. 20, a man tripped over his barbecue set, hitting his head on the deck. The man had a 2-inch contusion above his left eye. Medics transported him to the hospital for a possible concussion.

On Aug. 21, a woman suffered a 1-inch cut on her forehead when she tripped over her dog. She did not wish to be taken to the hospital. Firefighters bandaged the wound and released her at the scene.

On Aug. 21, while playing baseball, a young woman was sliding into second base when she jammed her foot. Medics transported her to the hospital for a possible fractured ankle.

On Aug. 22, medics responded to a report of an unconscious man. The crew found the man who said that he was homeless and was just taking a nap.  

On Aug. 23, a man drove his car down a 10-foot bank after nearly fainting. He told medics he was fine and did not wish to go to the hospital. But after medics examined him and checked his heart, he consented to being transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

On Aug. 24, firefighters assisted an elderly couple by giving them a ride home after their car broke down. The husband is wheelchair-bound, and they had left the wheelchair at home. The crew transported him home and helped him into his wheelchair.

On Aug. 24, a woman called 911 after being alerted by the family dog of a problem with her elderly father, who's a diabetic. Since his blood sugar was extremely low, medics brought his blood sugar back up to normal and instructed the family to monitor him closely and follow up with his doctor in the morning.  

On Aug. 25, firefighters extinguished two house fires on this day. The first house fire started on an outside wall and moved into the attic, the cause is still unknown. The second fire appeared to have been caused by a loose gas line connection to the kitchen stove. The homeowner reported that his dog was in the home. Firefighters searched the home but did not find him. The dog was later found unharmed by some neighbors. The house suffered heavy damage to the interior.
