Fire Blotter: Fatal Car Crash, Dog Rescued from Floating Dock

On Dec. 2, firefighters were called to a vehicle crash. A newer model BMW had been traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, crashed and became wedge between two trees. The driver was unable to get out of the vehicle due to both the vehicle doors having been squeezed into the seating area. The vehicle caught on fire and was fully involved when the crews arrived. The driver was unable to be resuscitated.

On Dec. 3, firefighters responded to a smoke complaint. They found an illegal burn during a burn ban. The homeowner was burning garbage, plastics, cans and other illegal materials. Due to lack of cooperation by the homeowner, the police were called to the scene. The homeowner agreed to extinguish the fire and was warned of possible fines by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency if he were to burn such items again.

On Dec. 4, a 76-year-old male was in a hallway of an assisted living complex. He had pressed his emergency alert three times before the staff found him without a pulse and unresponsive. The staff began CPR immediately. When the crew arrived, they took over and started treatment and transported him to the hospital. Upon arrival, the patient had begun to breathe on his own.

On Dec. 5, an elderly woman slipped out of her chair and fell to the floor. Her caregiver was unable to help her up due to her weight. Firefighters were called to assist. After an examination that revealed no injuries, the crew assisted her into her wheelchair and left her with her caregiver.

On Dec. 6, firefighters were called to rescue a dog trapped under a floating dock. The dog had fallen into the water and climbed up onto the flotation under the deck of the dock. The crew removed two sections of dock grating from the center of the float and reached around to the top of the flotation to remove the dog.

On Dec. 7, the crew was called to transport a young woman who had stopped taking her psychiatric medication. She was disoriented and confused at one point referring to the male medic as her mother. They transported her to the hospital for an evaluation.

On Dec. 8, medics were called to evaluate a 1-year-old who had the flu. He had been vomiting and wheezing for the past two days. Medics transported him to the children’s hospital.
