Fire Blotter: Firefighters Respond to Car Crash and Sinking Boat

On Dec. 9, firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, bystanders stated that the vehicle came down the hill and tried to make a turn, but the vehicle rolled two times and then came to a stop on its wheels. The driver got out of the vehicle and ran down the street. The police were able to locate the driver almost a mile away. After the medic examined him, he agreed to allow the crew to transport him to the hospital for further examination.

On Dec. 10, medics responded to a man who lacerated his calf while attempting to change the cutting blade on a grinder. Medics bandaged the wound and transported him to the hospital for further treatment.

On Dec. 11, dispatch received a call for a possible medication overdose. When medics made contact with the resident, he said there was no problem. The crew returned in service.

On Dec. 12, firefighters responded to a smoke complaint. They found an unauthorized land-clearing burn taking place during a Stage 1 burn ban. Firefighters ordered to put out the fire.

On Dec. 13, firefighters responded to a report of a sinking boat. They arrived to find the “Contessa” taking on water. There was no one in the boat and the police department was there to seize the boat once it was secured. Firefighters used a portable generator and sump pump to pump the water out and secured the boat, which was then turned over the Gig Harbor Police Department.

On Dec. 13, medics were called to a young man who passed out. He had had his wisdom teeth removed earlier that day and had not eaten or taken in any fluids.  After speaking to the patient’s oral surgeon, the decision was made to leave him in the care of his mother, who would make sure the patient was fed and hydrated and would call if there was any further symptoms.
