Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One responded to a call for a man who was lying in the middle of a roadway. Medics also treated a man who was feeling dizzy.

On Dec. 28, a man walked into the fire station complaining of dizziness. The medic took his blood pressure and found it to be high and recommended he be taken to the hospital. The man initially refused, but as he was leaving, he became dizzy again and started vomiting. He agreed to be taken to the hospital.

On Dec. 29, firefighters were dispatched to a gas line, which was ruptured during the digging of a utility ditch. The crew deployed a hose line as a precautionary measure and awaited the arrival of Puget Sound Energy. After the gas main was secured, the crew returned in service.

On Dec. 30, firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch. They arrived to find the car abandoned and backed into a ditch with damage to front and rear of vehicle. The reporting party stated that the vehicle had driven into the ditch on the north side of his driveway then backed into the ditch on the south side of his driveway. The crew called the Pierce County Sheriff and turned the vehicle over to authorities.

On Dec. 31, medics responded to a call for a man lying in the middle of a roadway. Medics found the man suffering from hypothermia. The man did not remember how he got there. The crew put him in the medic unit, removed his wet clothing and began to re-warm him. After an examination, the medic found an irregularity in his heart and transported him to the hospital.

On Jan. 1, a man reported a smell of propane in his residence. The crew responded to the property, and the man led firefighters to a propane tank. Engine 59 stood by with a hose line and used the gas monitor to check for gases while Engine 52 secured the propane tank and made sure it was closed. No gases were found.  The crew advised the man to contact the gas company to have the system tested and to leave the propane tank off until the gas company checked it out.

On Jan 2, medics responded to a woman with chest pain. They arrived to find the woman in bed writhing in pain, short of breath and wheezing. Medics treated and transported her to the hospital for further evaluation.

On Jan. 3, medics responded to an automatic medical alarm. When the crew arrived at the home, they found an elderly man who had slipped to the floor while trying to get into bed. He had been sick for several days and unable to eat or drink anything. Medics transported him to the hospital.
