Fire Blotter: Swimmers Rescued, Man Crashes Car into a Pole

On Sept. 2, medics took a woman to the hospital who was suffering from abdominal pain after her vehicle was involved in a rear-end collision.

On Sept. 3, firefighters responded to a call for missing swimmers in the water after dark. The crew was able to locate the swimmers with a spot light. All three swimmers were able to make it back to the boat ramp. After evaluation, they were all found to be unharmed and released to their own care.

On Sept. 4, a man with a history of insomnia crashed his car into a pole after falling asleep at the wheel. Medics transported him to the hospital for minor injuries.

On Sept. 5, an elderly woman fell while getting out of her vehicle. She was uninjured but could not get back up so she called 911. After an evaluation, firefighters assisted the woman back into her home.

On Sept. 6, a woman called 911 after noticing that her toddler had ingested an unknown amount of Jet Dry. Paramedics assessed the child and called for direction from the physician on duty at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. The parents were directed to give the child water to drink and to expect vomiting and nausea, but unless his symptoms got worse, he did not need to go to the hospital.

On Sept. 7, a man called 911 after noticing that his neighbor was not acting normally. The man told the paramedics that he had taken more than 20 Ambien in the last 48 hours. He was taken to a hospital for further care.

On Sept. 8, a flagger at a roadwork site fainted after working all day in the heat. Medics transported her to the hospital for possible dehydration.

On Sept. 8, a 58-year-old man, who had been working in the yard, appeared to have lain down in the back of his pickup to rest. His neighbor went to check on him after he did not appear to have moved for some time. The neighbor called 911 because the man was unconscious and not breathing. Medics confirmed that the man had died and waited for the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office.
