Gig Harbor Cancels Summer Sounds At Skansie, Movies In The Park

The move follows the recent cancellation of the Maritime Gig Festival. All three events were canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

GIG HARBOR, WA β€” The City of Gig Harbor has made the decision to cancel the remaining Summer Sounds at Skansie concerts as well as the final showing of its Friday Night Movies in the Park series.

The city says it made the moves in the interest of public safety, citing the recent dramatic rise in the local COVID-19 case rate. The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department on Thursday confirmed that the 14-day case rate for July 28 - Aug. 10 was 487 new infections per 100,000 county residents β€” the highest case rate the TPCHD has yet reported.

Summer Sounds at Skansie had two concernts left this summer, a show by The Paperboys on Aug. 24 and an appearance by Nate Botsford on Aug. 31. Friday Night Movies in the Park had been set to premiere Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on Aug. 27. All three events are now canceled.
