Memorial Service Today for Sheriff's Deputy Shandon Wright
The memorial service for Sheriff's Deputy Shandon Wright of South Hill will start at 1 p.m. today at the Champions Centre in Tacoma.

A public memorial service for Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy Shandon Wright will be held today in Tacoma.
Wright, a South Hill resident, was a five-year veteran of the Sheriff’s department. He died last Thursday, March 3, after undergoing shoulder surgery for an injury he sustained during an on-duty assault in August. The 29-year-old deputy is survived by his wife, Janessa, and 3-year-old daughter, Madison. The Pierce County Medical Examiner has not yet determined cause of death.
The service will be held at the Champions Centre, located at 1819 72nd St. in Tacoma. Doors will open at 11 a.m., and the ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

There will not be a procession, but there will be a small family motorcade to escort Wright’s family, scheduled to arrive at noon.
The program will include remarks from Wright’s father, his best friend and several colleagues. Gov. Chris Gregoire, Sheriff Paul Pastor and Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy will present the Washington State flag to Wright’s family.
