Milt Roby, WWII Vet And Gig Harbor Firefighter, Dies At 91

Roby began his career in Gig Harbor in 1960 and retired in 1987 as an assistant chief.

GIG HARBOR, WA - Gig Harbor fire and the community over the weekend celebrated the life of retired volunteer firefighter Milt Roby. Roby began his firefighting career with Gig Harbor in 1960 and retired in 1987 as an assistant chief.

Roby, 91, was born in 1926 and served in World War II after high school. While he worked as a volunteer firefighter, Roby was employed at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton

"Over the years, Milt served this community with steadfast loyalty. Whether he was manning the radio or simply showing up to the stations as a lone duty firefighter, Milt provided a quiet support that benefited all who worked with him. Milt will be missed by all whose who served with and under him," Gig Harbor fire wrote on its Facebook page.

Roby's memorial service was held at Harbor Covenant Church on Saturday. His family is asking for donations to the Gig Harbor Firefighter Association or Tacoma Rescue Mission in lieu of flowers.
