Toxic Algae Advisory Lifted For Crescent Lake
The Tacoma - Pierce County Health Department says the algae bloom has shrunk and that the water is safe once again.
GIG HARBOR, WA — A toxic algae advisory has been lifted for Gig Harbor's Crescent Lake.
Earlier, the health department had asked residents to avoid the area if possible, after a toxic algae bloom had been detected in the water. Now however, the health department says the algae bloom has decreased in size, and they believe the lake is safe for visitors once again.
At the same time, the county health department also lifted another algae advisory for Ohop Lake, near Eatonville. That means that, as of Tuesday, the only remaining advisories in Pierce County are at Spanaway and Palmer Lakes. Both are caution advisories, only asking residents to keep clear of areas with algae, and to keep pets out of the water.

Toxic algae are especially dangerous for pets, because they're more likely to drink the water or lick the toxins out of their fur. If your pet shows any of these symptoms after being exposed to algae, call a vet immediately:
- Lethargy
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Convulsions
- Difficulty breathing
Toxic algae can also cause symptoms like muscle weakness, vomiting, diarrhea and nausea in humans. If you or a pet are exposed to water containing the algae, experts say to rinse off immediately and keep a sharp eye out for symptoms.
