Washington Reports 501 More Coronavirus Cases
Saturday marks the second weekend that the state has not updated death counts.
SEATTLE — The Washington State Department of Health reported 479 more coronavirus cases on Saturday.
The death toll, meanwhile, has not been updated. Saturday marks the start of the second weekend since the state announced that the Department of Health would not be updating death counts on Saturdays or Sundays. The reason for the decision remains unclear. Instead, any deaths that have occurred over the weekend will instead be reported on Mondays and Tuesday.
Another source of confusion from Saturday's report is in hospitalizations: the data shows five fewer hospitalizations that were reported on Friday. That number should not be able to decrease, because it is a tally the total number of patients who have been hospitalized since the pandemic began— cases where patients were hospitalized, treated and released or that ended in death should both remain counted. However, the DOH says that an issue in their data recording system has forced them to reevaluate.
