Biz News: Curiously Contoured Mercurys Coffee Opens in Kirkland

The Mercurys Coffee shop on Rose Hill will celebrate its grand opening Friday and Saturday with free drinks, mugs and tee-shirts.

Have you seen the curiously shaped new drive-through structure on Rose Hill at 8506 122nd Street? Itโ€™s the sixth location of Mercurys Coffee Co., founded in 1998 in Woodinville by Morgan Harris.

The Kirkland shop opened May 4 and will celebrate its grand opening Friday (4 a.m.-11 p.m.) and Saturday (5 a.m.-11p.m.) with free drinks, mugs, tee-shirts and more than $2,500 in Mercurys gift cards.

Mercurys sells a large variety of hot and cold coffee -- lattes, cappucino, mochas, etc -- using organic, trade-free coffee, along with baked goods, desserts, breakfast and lunch foods.

And that crazy-cool shape? Harris is billing it as โ€œAmericaโ€™s Most Architecturally Stunning Drive Thru Coffee Bar,โ€ and Mercurys is already known for the unusual shapes of some of its other locations.

โ€œI wanted to build something that was unique and evoked emotion in people when they saw it,โ€ he says. โ€œI also wanted to push the envelope, so to speak, in the drive-through coffee industry and raise the bar.โ€

Elements of the other locations were used in the design.

โ€œI'm proud of how it turned out and from the feedback we have been getting along with the constant flow of people just stopping to look and take pictures, I would say we hit the mark pretty high,โ€ says Harris.

Lots of photos of the new building and other information are available on the company Facebook page as well as the home page: www.mercuryscoffee.com.
Its other locations are in Redmond (2), Woodinville (2) and Fall City.

Regular hours at all the shops are Monday through Friday, 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
