Cross Kirkland Corridor Adopt-a-Trail Program Kicks Off September 8

Volunteers are needed to help clean up a section of the old Burlington Northern Railroad corridor.

On Saturday, September 8, Kudos Kirkland and the Highlands Neighborhood will kick off the City of Kirkland's new "Adopt-a-Trail" program.

Violunteers can help spruce up a three-quarter mile section of the new Cross Kirkland Corridor by picking up litter, clipping vegetation, and spreading gravel.

The kick off event takes place on Saturdayย fromย 10 a.m. to noon. Interested volunteers will meetย at the intersection of NE 87th St and 112th Ave NE before starting off.ย Garbage bags, safety vests, and some tools will be provided. Volunteers will need to bring theirย own clippers and gloves.ย Refreshments will be provided to keep everyone cool.

Youth under 18 must have parent supervision or a signed waiver, which is available upon request.ย Youth under 14 must have parent supervision.

The city purchased 5.75 miles of Burlington Northern Railroad corridor in March, 2012, and is currently working on a master plan and funding for a mixed use trail. Until those are in place, the city is requesting citizen help to maintain the corridor.
